Area golfers tee off in U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier
Rugby High School’s Jack McClintock and Rolette High School’s Nick Myhre are among 10 golfers competing in the U.S. Junior Amateur Section qualifier today at Fargo Country Club.
McClintock tees off at 7:38 a.m. alongside Fargo’s Lucas Johnson. Myhre tees off in the group after McClintock at 7:45 a.m. Myhre, who won the Class B state championship earlier this year, is paired with Canadian member Zachary Sackett.
Compared to previous years, the field of golfers is much smaller than normal.
“2013 has been an aberration for us,” Dick Anderson, a USGA Regional Associations committee member, said in a press release. “Our golf season did not really start until May, fully two months later than last year, and even then not all of the courses were fully playable.”
The golfer who posts the best qualifying score will earn a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship beginning July 22 at the Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif.
