Mike Officer, 69, Minot, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 23, 2013, in the home of a friend.
Michael George Officer was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Minot, a son of George and Dorothy “Tiny” (Burtness) Officer. Mike was raised at Ryder and graduated from Ryder High School. Mike had a number of careers, the most recent being the owner of Whitetail Construction Co. He had decided to retire and was looking forward to some traveling.
On Nov. 21, 2008, Mike was united in marriage to Renee Best at their home in Minot. Their home was flooded and they had been living in a FEMA trailer in Burlington until two weeks ago when they closed that park. They were staying with a friend while their flooded home is being rebuilt. Mike was once married to Joyce Pollock.
He was a member of the Elks, National Rifle Association, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Republican Party. Mike enjoyed all kinds of hunting and was a big fan of NASCAR and Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. He and Renee enjoyed many long trips on the Harley.
His biggest joy was being a grandpa. Even though his grandchildren weren’t close by, he would talk for days after a visit about the things they did and said. He always looked forward to getting pictures of them.
Mike is survived by: wife, Renee Best-Officer, Minot; son, Dr. Todd (RaNae) Officer, Park Rapids, Minn.; stepsons, Chad (Michelle) Stark, Sedro-Woolley, Wash., Troy (Lori) Stark, Richfield, Minn.; grandchildren, Tyler Officer, Grace Officer, Austin Stark, Kortni Amundson, Samantha Stark; father and stepmother; George and Jeanice Officer, Minot; brother, Rod (Kathy) Officer, Minot; mother-in-law: Miva Best, Minot; and nieces and nephews also survive.
Mike was preceded in death by: his mother, Dorothy Officer, and grandparents.
Funeral service: Friday, June 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, June 27, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. At Mike’s request, the casket will be closed.
