Badlands Express headlines AIP

At Scandinavian Heritage Center on Sunday, the country band Badlands Express will present two shows, at 4 and 7 p.m.

Band leader Dean Clott says the group started in 1977 and played through 1994.

“We then took off like 20 years, and when it was time, the original group got back together and just started playing again,” he said. Clott described the type of music they’ll play as rowdy country variety, with hard-hitting country titles. On their combo of drums, bass guitar, guitar and keyboards, with all four handling the vocals, they’ll play such songs as “Orange Blossom Special,” “Wagon Wheel” and “White Lightning.”

“We also have a smattering of new songs, like ‘Let Me Down Easy,'” Clott said.

The visual artist is Pat Marquard, watercolorist.

There is no charge for these shows, but free will offerings will be accepted to help keep this series of summer concerts, unique in the state, to continue at no set charge. Popcorn and water will be available for sale, but concertgoers are welcome to bring picnics and their own lawn chairs.

In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be cancelled.
