Norene Evelyn McNea, age 88, of Bottineau, died Monday, July 8, at a Bottineau hospital. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at the United Parish in Bottineau. Visitation will be today, July 10, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., both at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.
Norene Evelyn (Hagen) McNea was born June 30, 1925, to Gilbert and Mary (Gibbs) Hagen, in Willow Vale Township. She graduated from Omemee High School in 1943 and on Sept. 28, 1943, she and Floyd were married. Norene received her teacher’s certification and began teaching at several township schools while Floyd served in Europe during World War II.
Norene worked as a clerk at Red Owl and later Piggly-Wiggly, all while raising six children. In 1975, she became a deputy for the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department and worked there until retiring in 1988.
She was a member of the United Parish in Bottineau and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She was active as a 4-H leader as her children were growing. She was also a charter member of the Bottineau County Trail Riders and organized many horse shows.
She is survived by: her husband, Floyd, of Bottineau; 3 daughters, Carolle ( Ronnald) Tennancour, Rhonda (Paul) Milbrath and Debra (Marc) Nelson, all of Bottineau; 3 sons, Gary (Linda) McNea, Bottineau, Melvin (Michelle) McNea, North Platte, Neb., and Jeff McNea, Bottineau; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; sister, Marlyce (Ray) Cole, Valley City; sisters-in-law, Jean McNea, Billings, Mont., Marilyn McNea, Longmont, Colo. and Joyce Hicks, Ellis Ville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Hagen; sister, Lora Kongslie; one great-grandchild, MaKenzie Milbrath, and a stepgreat-grandchild, Wade Waagen.
