Two Bison on award watch list

North Dakota State University seniors Marcus Williams and Grant Olson were named to the Buck Buchanan Award watch list by The Sports Network.

The award goes to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. The 20-player list was released Thursday.

Williams, a 5-foot-11, 197-pound cornerback, is the program’s all-time interception leader with 18. He had seven picks in each of the previous two seasons and snagged two in the 2013 FCS Championship win over Sam Houston State. Williams was the 2012 Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Olson, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker, led the Bison with 148 tackles last season. He had 51 solo stops, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Olson set a school record with 29 tackles in NDSU’s 14-7 win over Wofford College (S.C.) in last season’s FCS quarterfinals.
