Attendance numbers slightly down

From Friday to Sunday, day-long admissions at the North Dakota State Fair totaled 115,952 visitors.

The numbers so far come in at about 3,000 fewer admissions than for the same range last year. The 2012 attendance set the record, though, points out North Dakota State Fair Director Renae Korslien.

“It’s really our daily ticket sales that dropped,” said Korslien. She cited the rain on Friday, and the earlier forecast for rain that evening, as a driving factor in keeping people who would usually come in after work in the evenings from coming out that day.

There were 29,256 attendees on Friday, down about 5,000 from the opening Friday in 2012.

Saturday, however, showed improvement over last year, coming in at about 1,800 more attendees with a total of 48,747 fair-goers.

Sunday showed another drop, but by a much smaller number at 600 fewer people, totaling 37,949 admissions.

“Every day is different,” said Jennifer Hubrig, the marketing director for the Fair. “It’s been a great fair, we’ve had a lot of people coming through the gates and the most important part is that they have smiles on their faces.”
