State Fair ups detox numbers
There were a total of 13 alcohol-related detoxes over the weekend, from Friday afternoon starting at 4:30 to Monday morning at 7 a.m., according to Lt. Steve Whitesell of the Minot Police Department.
For comparison’s sake, the weekend of July 12 through 15, the last weekend before the State Fair came to town, saw just seven detoxes performed.
A detoxification will take place either at the Ward County Jail or at Trinity Hospital and really is “not an arrest but a caretaking measure,” Whitesell said. It allows a heavily intoxicated person the chance to rest and cleanse the body to prevent severe damage or damaging decisions.
In total, 77 charges were filed against people within Minot during the first fair weekend. Of those, 46 adults were arrested and eight juveniles were referred to juvenile court.
