Veronica Callahan-Cook

Veronica “Ronni” Callahan-Cook, 87, Minot, died Monday, July 22, 2013, in her home.

Veronica Katheryn Hamers was born April 10, 1926, in Minot, a daughter of Harry and Emily (Huebschwerlen) Hamers. She was raised and educated in Minot, where she graduated from Minot High School in 1944. She furthered her education by attending Minot State Teachers College for one year.

On Sept. 17, 1946, Ronni was united in marriage to Gerald Callahan in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where their four children, Peggy, Patricia, Michael and Timothy, were born. Gerald passed away in December of 1981.

On Jan. 29, 1983, Ronni was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Cook in Minot. Over the years Ronni worked for the City Assessor’s office, Bishop Ryan Catholic School, and General Trading Co. Bob passed away in May 2007.

Ronni was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Auxiliary, Bishop Ryan Board of Regents and Souris Valley Ladies Golf group. Community service was very important to her and she volunteered at the Norsk Hostfest, Trinity Guest House, 2nd Story and the Food Pantry.

She enjoyed wintering for 17 years in Texas, traveling, reading, shopping and golfing.

Ronni is survived by: children, Peggy Nathan, Fargo, Patricia Jaynes, Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael (Kim) Callahan, Downers Grove, Ill., Timothy Callahan, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; stepchildren, Connie (Chuck) Shaw, of Merrit Island, Fla., Kathy (John) Warberg, of Loon Lake, Chuck (Julie) Cook, of Albuquerque, N.M., Becky Zahn, of Phoenix, John (Barb) Cook, of Williston, Mary (Rick) Rauschenberger, of Minot, Cindy (Dave) Romine, of Bismarck, Bernadette Cook and Lisa Cook, both of Phoenix; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronni was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gerald and Bob; stepson, Michael Cook; and a brother, Jack Hamers.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot

Graveside service: Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, July 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil prayer service: Friday, at 7 p.m., in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 2nd Story of Minot, or the Bishop Ryan Hogan Society Heritage Fund, Minot.
