Fair brings in record numbers so far

Wednesday saw a rally in attendence at the North Dakota State Fair, increasing the day’s admissions by more than 5,000 people over the same day last year. That huge figure meant that by the end of Wednesday, 214,985 people had passed through the gates.

“Yesterday made a big comeback for us,” State Fair marketing director Jennifer Hubrig said Thursday.

The debut weekend came and went with disappointing figures. A total of 5,033 fewer people attended the opening day, an occurance State Fair officials believe may be the fault of the weather.

While Sunday through Tuesday were also lower than their equivalent days last year, Saturday saw an increase of 1,843 people and Wednesday saw an increase of 5,040 to come to a grand total of 736 people more than last year.

The number to beat to make 2013 the most attended State Fair in history is 310,839. That was the total number of people to pass through the gates in 2012.

But, to Hubrig, numbers are not what’s important, it’s that “we have a fun safe Fair for everyone.”
