Julie (Mack) Buxa, 55, Harvey, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, in her home after a two-year fight with peritoneal cancer.
Julie was born Sept. 6, 1957, in Harvey and grew up there. She was the daughter of Edward and Lorraine (Klein) Mack. She graduated in 1975 from Harvey High School and went on to get her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, in 1979. Julie married Stan Buxa on June 20, 1980, in Harvey. They lived in Minot where she first worked as a registered nurse for Trinity Medical Center and later as an instructor for Trinity School of Nursing.
They moved to Harvey in 1982 where Julie worked for St. Aloisius Medical Center until 1989. From 1989 until 2008 she taught the Health Careers program at Harvey High School. She then taught the CNA program and inservice programs for St. Aloisius. In 2011 she became the instructor for the newly started LPN program at the hospital through Bismarck State College. She served for a short period of time until ill health forced her to resign.
Julie attended Bethel Baptist Church in Harvey and was active in many areas there. She was a member of the women’s mission group serving as hospitality chairman for many years. She was the Sparks director in the AWANA program and helped in many other areas of the Awana program. She was also a member of the Nifty Sisters homemaker’s club.
Julie was a loving mother, wife and friend to all. She was always quick to lend a helping hand or extend her cheerfulness to others. Her main concerns always extended beyond self-gratification and toward the care and concern for those close to her, even into her final days. The joy and compassion that Julie showed in her life will echo in the memories of loved ones forever.
Julie’s hobbies included gardening and anything to do with yard work. She loved to go for her daily walk, ride bike, or to spend time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed being a spectator at Harvey High School athletic events and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
