Elizabeth (Oakland) Hagen, 94, of Rolla, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at her home.
Born Feb. 26, 1919, on a farm in Towner County, she later moved to Rolette County with her parents, Oscar and Esther Oakland, and sister, Ruth, where she attended Union School. She graduated from Bisbee High School in 1936.
Elizabeth married Vernon “Babe” Hagen, of Rolla, in 1939, and they farmed south of Rolla. She lived on the Hagen farm until 1989, when she moved to Rolla where she resided until her death.
Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed in the Mylo Lutheran Church. She was a member of Ladies Aid and choir. She later joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rolla, serving as the president of the Ladies Aid, working with youth and singing in the choir.
Elizabeth served as County Youth Leader and camp director for Rolette and Towner County Farmers’ Union. She was a president of the Rolette County Homemakers, served on the North Dakota State Board of Nursing, and was involved in Order of the Eastern Star, Rolla Hospital Auxiliary and the Democratic Party.
Known for her unique voice, Elizabeth performed solos for many weddings, funerals and other events during her lifetime. Elizabeth loved being a “Bisbee girl.” She loved North Dakota, farming, the prairie and entertaining her friends and family.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by: her husband, Vernon “Babe” Hagen; parents Esther and Oscar Oakland; sister, Ruth Anfinson; grandson, Aaron Iverson; and infant brother, Rudolph Elmer Oakland.
She is survived by: daughters, Patricia Hagen-Busch (Jack), Los Altos Hills, Calif.; Deborah Iverson (David), Sammamish, Wash.; Colleen Morin (Dan), Tyrone, Ga.; grandchildren, Dakota Iverson Krueger (David), Sammamish, Wash., Jesse Morin, San Francisco, Calif., Eli Morin, Oakland, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Claire and Grace Krueger.
Funeral services: Will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rolla.
