Body of New Town man recovered from lake

NEW TOWN The body of a man who apparently drowned in Lake Sakakawea, west of New Town, has been found.

The victim was identified as Scott Eagle, 50, of New Town.

Searchers recovered his body about 2:50 p.m. Friday in about 50 feet of water north of the Four Bears Bridge.

Eagle was with family members on a pontoon when he went overboard and apparently drowned. The incident occurred north of the Four Bears Bridge Tuesday night, said Glenda Baker Embry, public relations officer for the tribes.

Family members had searched for him but could not locate him. The tribal Fish and Wildlife Division received a call about the apparent drowning about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Tribal, state and local emergency responders had been searching the lake for the past days. A foot search of the lake’s shoreline also was conducted Thursday night.

Eagle was the New Town-Little Shell representative to the tribal business council from November 2008-November 2012.
