Ruth Helde, 66, Powers Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at a Rochester, Minn., hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Powers Lake. Visitation is Friday from 9 a.m. to service time in the church.
Ruth was born April 20, 1947, in Hardinsburg, Ky., to Earl and Eleanor King. She was raised and attended school in that area. Ruth married Lloyd Skalicky in 1966 and raised four children while living in Powers Lake until 1975. The couple divorced and the family moved down south. Ruth returned to Powers Lake in 1985 and met her soul mate, Don Helde. They married on Jan. 15, 1995, and continued to make their home in Powers Lake.
Ruth loved animals, gardening, flowers and auctions. She was an avid Derek Jeter and New York Yankees fan as well as a Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. Ruth most enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by: her husband, Don Helde, Powers Lake; children, Lloyd (Carmen) Skalicky Jr., Powers Lake, Jean Velo, Williston, James (Kim) Skalicky, Williston, Tommy Skalicky, Underwood, Matt (Kimberly) Helde, of Hudson, Wis., Shane Helde, Gillette, Wyo., Crystal (Doug) Helde, of Alexander, and Slade Helde, Minneapolis; 17 grandkids; nine great-grandkids; sister, Anna Gibson, Sellersburg, Ind.; and beloved dog, Andy.
Ruth’s parents and grandparents preceded her in death.
