MOHALL Edna Christina Gilseth, 95, Mohall, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at a Minot hospital.
Edna was born June 27, 1918, on the family farm near Antler, the sixth of 12 children born to Oscar and Christina (Larson) Hallof. She grew up with her three sisters and eight brothers on the family farm southwest of Antler. Edna attended grades one through eight in a one-room country school just west of the family farm. She finished her education in Antler, where she graduated from high school with honors in 1937. After high school, Edna helped with cooking at a neighboring farm until her marriage.
Edna married Clarence Gilseth on Oct. 8, 1938. They resided on a farm north of Mohall, where they were blessed with two sons, Darrel and Roger, and a daughter, Karen.
In 1962, the family moved into Mohall. It was in 1967 that Edna lost her husband when she was just 48 years old. A hard worker, she remained alone, working at a variety of jobs until 1974, at which time she was hired as a cook for the Mohall Public School. This would be her perfect job as it combined her love of cooking and children. She would hold this job for 20 years, retiring at the age of 75.
Edna’s three passions throughout her life were her flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and baking. She spent endless hours enjoying these activities and took great pleasure in sharing the final results with family and friends.
Her greatest passion, however, was her family. A selfless, generous lady, nothing made her happier than helping her family and sharing whatever she had with them. A simple woman, the only thing Edna ever really wanted was to spend time with her loved ones. This was her greatest treasure.
Edna was proud of her independence, living alone until two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. A fall placed her in the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Mohall for the majority of the remaining two months of her life. After a stroke in the nursing home, she spent five days at Trinity Hospital in Minot, where she passed away the thirteenth hour of the thirteenth day of August, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones. She was loved and appreciated beyond words and will be dearly missed.

Edna is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and she will be dearly missed by her loyal sister and best friend, Alyce Spencer, of Westhope, with whom she enjoyed daily visits.
