Grace Shaw, 98, Minot, formerly of Makoti, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Trinity Health, in Minot.
Grace was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Northfield, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Myrtle (Cranston) Mikkelson. When Grace was 4 years old her family homesteaded in Roseglen. Grace was united in marriage to Grant Shaw on Sept. 15, 1934, in Washburn. The couple lived in various towns in North Dakota before moving to Makoti, where they made their home. While living in Makoti Grace worked for four years as a cook at the Makoti Public School. Grant passed away on June 26, 2000. Grace moved to Minot and most recently had resided at Edgewood Vista.
Grace’s home was a gathering place for all her family and friends. She enjoyed playing pinochle and loved making doughnuts and was well known for her delicious golden buns. Her favorite desert was pumpkin pie or banana bread. Grace was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Makoti where she was active with ladies aid, the Makoti Senior Citizens and the Makoti Threshing Show.
Grace is survived by: her son, Ken (Kim) Shaw, Surrey; son-in-law, Wally (Joyce) Beyer, Coon Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Wanda (Tom) Selzler, Bismarck, Jan (Gar) Weidrich, Rolla, Jon (Jennifer) Beyer, Denver, Jennifer (Brian) Woiwode, Minot, Eric (Angela) Shaw, Minot, and Benjamin (Victoria) Cofell, Minot; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant; daughter, Pat Beyer; sisters, Marion, Alice, Dorothy, Leona, Delores and Irene; and brothers, Russell and Lawrence.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m., Hope Lutheran Church in Makoti.
Burial Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
