Ginger Hansen

Virginia “Ginger” (Kraft) Hansen, 61, Minot, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart condition Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.

Ginger was born in Minot and graduated from Granville High School in 1970. She attended Minot Business College, earning a secretarial certificate. Ginger began working at Dakota Meats, where she met her best friend and husband, Fred Hansen Jr., from Carpio.

The two were united in marriage on April 21, 1978, in Minot. Fred and Ginger recently celebrated 35 wonderful years of marriage. During those years they were blessed with three sons and a granddaughter. She loved her boys beyond measure but her granddaughter, Sam, was the apple of her eye. Every summer Samantha would come up from Iowa and spend at least one week with Grandma. This was the highlight of her year and she truly cherished every moment she had with her one and only granddaughter, Sam.

While extremely busy raising her boys, Ginger spent over 30 years providing daycare from her home. Between friends of her sons and countless daycare children, she was a mother to many.

When she wasn’t taking care of everyone else she loved spending time tending to her flowers and always kept great care of her house. After the devastating flood of 2011, Ginger and her family spent endless hours getting the yard and family home rebuilt. Ginger continued her daycare through the trials of the flood and the rebuilding, but she was determined to get the family home rebuilt so she could provide the best care possible for the kids she took care of.

Hosting a house full of company was one of her brightest joys, especially when she had the whole family home for the holidays.

Ginger found time to be involved and volunteer at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot, the Boy Scouts and taught CCD. Ginger belonged to St. John’s Catholic Church, Minot, and St. Kathryn’s group of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Her caring family includes: husband, Fred Jr.; sons, Nathan, Daniel and Brandyn; granddaughter, Samantha; father, Joseph A. Kraft; siblings, Ken (Gloria) Kraft, Steve Kraft, Mary Beth Kraft, Tim Kraft, Judy (Tim) Bingen, Bob Kraft, Bernie Kraft, Teresa (Darrel) Loftesnes, Pat Kraft, Mike Kraft, Bill Kraft, Katie (Ray) Lilliquist, and Linda (Joe) Hudson. She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Flammang) Kraft; an infant daughter, Nicole; and an infant sister, Mary Jo.
