Customized dream cars

Motor Magic and Souris Valley United Way are sponsoring the fourth annual pedal car auction at 12:01 p.m., Sept. 1, that will take place just before the Motor Magic Classic Car Auction at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. All proceeds from the pedal car event will go to the Souris Valley United Way Campaign and will benefit organizations in the community.

Danielle Cook, Souris Valley United Way campaign coordinator, said that nine pedal cars are in the auction this year. Businesses, individuals and groups purchased the disassembled, primed pedal cars and customized them for the auction.

“There are a lot of great ones,” said Cook.

She said Dream Car Customs customized a “super sparkly, girlie” Little Miss USA car and Minot’s Finest Collision Center customized a Breast Cancer Awareness Car. Minot High School’s automotive technology class customized three of the cars, with a Minnesota Vikings car and a Green Bay Packers car among the creations. Other customized pedal cars include a “modified race car.” Dakota Cruisers submitted a classic style pedal car.

She said they’re fantastic, one-of-a-kind pieces with a wide range of paint jobs.

Cook said the amount the pedal cars will bring at auction varies depending on the decor.

“It kind of varies,” she said. “Maybe one will go for $1,000 and others are in the $300 to $400 range.”

Cook predicted that the Minnesota Vikings pedal car could be popular because of the Vikings fans in the area.

Cook said she hopes that there will be even more entries in the pedal car auction next year.

The Motor Magic Class Car Auction is providing the venue for the auction, a state licensed auctioneer, and a state licensed clerk at no cost to Souris Valley United Way.

“In the past three years we’ve had a lot of success with this auction and we keep hoping to raise even more for the community this year,” said Souris Valley United Way Executive Director Patricia Smith.
