Curtis Mehlhoff

Curtis Delene Mehlhoff, 80, Bismarck, formerly of Garrison, died peacefully on Aug. 29, 2013, in Bismarck, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck. Visitation will be today, Sept. 1, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, and Monday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A private burial will take place at Garrison Cemetery.

Curt was born on Feb. 13, 1933, to Jacob and Amelia (Bauch) Mehlhoff, in rural Coleharbor, N.D. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1951. After working for a short time at the Ford plant in Minneapolis, he returned to the Garrison area and started farming. For several years he sold vehicles during the winter months for Schaeffer Ford of Underwood, N.D.

Curt married Lois Walters on Oct. 22, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Curt and Lois were blessed with four daughters, Cynthia, Susan, Lisa, and Jody. Lois died on July 7, 1988. Curt retired from farming in 1989 and later moved to Bismarck.

In 1993, he met Bonnie Rees in Minot, N.D. They married Jan. 8, 1994, and were looking forward to celebrating their 20th anniversary. Curt and Bonnie lived in Bismarck, spending the winter months in Bermuda Dunes, Calif. They enjoyed dancing, golfing, watching movies and Prairie Knights.

Curt volunteered his services to the Garrison Fire Department. He faithfully served the church council at St. Paul Lutheran Church. At a very young age, Curt learned the game of pool, which he enjoyed throughout his lifetime. He belonged to pool leagues and played in many tournaments. Curt also enjoyed bowling, fishing and golfing. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father who loved and took great pride in his family. He was happiest when he was enjoying family time in North Dakota and California.

Curt will be missed by: his loving wife, Bonnie; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Gar Frank, Hazen, Sue and Mike Morken, Fargo, Lisa and Mark Hart, Bismarck, and Jody and Tom Pfliger, Hazen; grandchildren, Jason Frank, Mandan, Jordan (Amanda) Frank, Maysville, Ky., Jeffrey (Pam) Frank, Hazen, Sarah Morken, Grand Forks, Matthew Morken, Fargo, Austin Juntunen, Bismarck, Natasha (Seth) Hoff, Williston, Tyler Pfliger, Hazen, and Brian Hart, Bismarck; great-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, and Katelyn Frank, Hayden Dean and Justin Frank, Kennedi Holo, Aiden and Harrison Hoff; stepdaughters, Tara (Chris) Conklin, Yucaipa, Calif., and Brenda (Mike) Mitchell, Bermuda Dunes, Calif.; stepgrandsons, Shawn (Jennifer) Raae-Nielsen, Scott Raae-Nielsen, Nolan Raae-Nielsen, JT Sobral, Mason Mitchell and Tanner Mitchell, all of California; stepgreat-grandson, Cavin Rees Raae-Nielsen; brothers, Aleck (Esther) Mehlhoff, Minot, Norman(Laura) Mehlhoff, Bismarck, special brother, Corky (Yvonne) Mehlhoff, Bismarck; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Mehlhoff, Garrison, Arlene Mehlhoff, Minot, special sister-in-law, Bev Hill, Bismarck, and brother-in-law, Sam Eslinger (Doris Engene), Garrison; mother-in-law, June Albrecht, Minot; sisters-in-law, Carol Hanson, Kenmare, Arliss Hildago, Atlanta, Ga., Ruth (Ike) Gefroh, Orlando, Fla., and Ruby (Joel) Rathbun, Minot; and many special nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Those who greeted him in heaven include his first wife, Lois; infant daughter; great-granddaughter, Amelia Hoff; parents, Jacob and Amelia; brothers, Edmund, Rueben, Roy (Darlene), Arnold (Adeline); sisters, Alma Eslinger and Rena (Willie) Weishaar, and infant sister, Katherine.
