Kenny Ammon, 63, Minot, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Kenneth Ray Ammon was born Aug. 11, 1950, the son of Jacob and Ruth (Dockter) Ammon, in Harvey. He was baptized at Funston Lutheran Church, confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, and was raised on the family farm south of Anamoose. He attended Anamoose School and graduated with honors from Anamoose High School in 1968. In high school, he was the captain of his nine-man football team which was something he was always proud of. He also was a member of a local rock band and played at several local functions. After graduation, he attended Minot Business College. While attending college, he worked nights loading trucks at Northern Bottling Co.
He married Loretta “Lori” Doubek, of Minot, June 3, 1971, and they were blessed with two children, Nichole and Jesse. At that time, he got a full-time route sales position with Northern Bottling and worked there 15 years, moving up to sales manager.
In 1983, he began employment with Frito-Lay as a route salesman, where he began his 30-year career. During these 30 years with Frito-Lay, he prided himself as a dedicated and hard-working company man. He received many company awards for his hard work; including national, regional and district recognition. He left Frito-Lay in August 2012 due to health. He loved his customers and loved what he did with Frito-Lay.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot for 42 years. He enjoyed making and delivering potato klub. He was also active with the Minot Hockey Boosters, where he held the title of president for eight years. He started Perkett Elementary School’s first Cub Scout troop in Minot.
He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and making sausage with Duffy, Flint and Mike. He loved his times at his cabin at Rice Lake, where he had family get-togethers over Labor Day. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and the Green Bay Packers. His biggest pleasure was spending time with his family.
His loving family includes: wife of 42 years, Lori, Minot; daughter, Nikki Farr, Minot; son, Jesse (Brenda) Ammon, LeMesa, Calif.; mother, Ruth Ammon, Anamoose; grandchildren, Major Rice and Tia Farr; brothers, James (Carol) Ammon, Anamoose, and Tom (Jennifer) Ammon, of Harvey; sisters, Avonell (Larry) Simonson, Minot, Merrilly (Dave) Zodrow, Minot, Connie (Mike) Rudnick, Anamoose, and Sherry (Steve) Kuske, Minot; sisters-in-law, Betsy Peter, Rockton, Ill., Jody (George) Modica, Pecatonica, Ill., Rita Sundberg, Machesney Park, Ill., Cindi (Gary) Pawlik, St. Petersberg, Fla., Emily (Greg) Olivier, Colgate, Wis., and Melanie (Rod) Zech, Chicago; brothers-in-law, Clyde (Amy) Doubek, Havre, Mont., and Duffy (Kari) Doubek, Minot; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Jacob; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leone and John Doubek; and his sister-in-law, Linda Doubek-Ballard.
Funeral: Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Sept. 5, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christ Lutheran Church Flood Rebuild, Minot, or to the Minot Hockey Boosters.
