Roger Wayne Swazey, 75, of Stanley, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in a Minot hospital.
Roger was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Brownsville Junction, Maine, to James E. and Jennie M. Swazey.
He married Evelyn in 1958 and adopted her four children. They later had a son and daughter together. Following their divorce, Roger met and married Ceil. He then gained five more stepchildren. In March 1992, Ceil passed away after a long battle with cancer. Later that year, he met Debbie Fenstermacker and in 1994 they moved to North Dakota. He and Debbie were married in April 2003 in Deadwood, S.D., in a private ceremony. Roger gained two more stepchildren, Todd (Selina) Nohr and Misty (Jason) Zuchara and five stepgrandkids, Remington, Colt and Tawni Nohr and Liberty and Logan Zuchara.
Roger was in the Air Force for six years and spent three of those years in the Philippines where worked as an airplane electrician. He then worked at Duval Mines as a heavy equipment electrician, at Southwest Kenworth as an electrical trouble-shooter for heavy equipment and at Frito Lay as an equipment electrician. When he came to North Dakota, Roger owned and managed the West Side Bar in Stanley for a year. He then worked for several farmers in the Stanley area. For the past three years, he was employed with Brosz Engineering.
Roger always had a smile on his face and was referred to as “The Walmart Greeter.” He enjoyed meeting new people and welcomed anyone who came to town. Roger loved to fish, but he didn’t get the chance to enjoy it often. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. Roger was loved and will be missed by all.
