Perpetua “Pat” Grinnell Fox (Pumpkin “Ga Gu Wish”) was born April 19, 1933, in Elbowoods, the daughter of Maggie (Old Dog) and George Grinnell Jr. She went home on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Trinity Hospital in Minot. She was a member of the Prairie Chicken Clan and a child of the Dripping Dirt Clan. She lived the majority of her life on Fort Berthold and left for a short period of time to live and work in Chicago with sisters, Rita and Regina.
She attended school at Elbowoods until the eighth grade, leaving school to help on the Grinnell home place. She was an accomplished horsewoman who could expertly ride, rope and shoot. She loved and respected horses and saw them as her equal. She also had great respect for any other animals great and small and had a bobcat, an owl and antelope as pets. Throughout her lifetime she always sought to have a dog or cat in her home. Pat was once married to Vincent “Dutch” Fox for 13 years; from this union they had four children: Vincent “Jerome,” Carol Kay, Kelly James, and Peter Don Fox.
Pat enjoyed visiting with family and friends and cooking for them. She also enjoyed playing bingo and “500” with her sister, Regina, and traveling to Parshall and Minot to be with sister, Josephine “Joy” and her family. She was proud of her nieces and nephews and grandchildren’s accomplishments, no matter how small or great.
Pat lived her life with sheer determination based on the values and teachings she obtained from her childhood at Elbowoods. She lived her life the best way she knew with courage, humility, generosity and humor. She had many friends over the years and cherished her times with them.
