Patrick Lenertz

Patrick J. Lenertz, 76, Minot, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Patrick Joseph Lenertz was born Sept. 8, 1937, to Phillip and Catherine (Kraft) Lenertz in Minot. Pat grew up on the family farm in Karlsruhe. He also attended school there.

Pat was united in marriage to Stella Weigel on June 13, 1960, at Sacred Heart Church in Orrin. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minot. Patrick worked for three years on the railroad. The rest of Pat’s career was in the construction field. Pat was known for his ability to manage any building project, whether it was commercial or to help out his two sons with any house projects they would take on. He worked for several companies, including Boyd & Hammond Construction in 1970 and North Star Steel in 1976. He then, in 1979, started working for General Growth Developments, building shopping malls. In 1980 Dakota Square Mall was built in Minot. After Dakota Square Mall was complete, he joined Hammond Contracting as a partner from 1981 to 1987. He was then asked to come back to General Growth and supervise the construction of the Sears addition at Dakota Square and then transferred to build shopping centers in Clarksville, Ind., Mankato, Minn., and Roseville, Minn. After that he moved back to Minot in 1993, where he supervised the construction of the Quentin Burdick Job Corps Center. After the completion of the Job Corps, he went to work for Wheeler Contracting and worked there for the past 17 years until ill health forced him to retire in 2011.

Pat enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR races, taking trips to the casino, playing on the computer, and just being with his family and friends. He adored his grandchildren and looked forward to every holiday and birthday celebration he would get to spend with them. His family would describe him as being the rock of the family. He never took one day or moment for granted; he was always the first one there to lend a hand. Pat was the most caring, generous and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend any one could ever ask for.

Pat was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Minot.
