MHS downs Williston in comeback

WILLISTON – The Minot High School volleyball team made it’s most impressive comeback of the season with a 3-2 West Region win over Williston on Tuesday.

The Majettes (6-7 overall, 2-4 region) dropped the first two sets 25-16, but rebounded with comfortable victories in the final three sets 25-15, 25-20, 15-11.

“Basically, the girls just kind of refused to lose,” MHS coach Ellen Jebens said. “The girls decided what they wanted and they went after it.”

MHS senior Jerica Hansen had a match-high 10 kills followed by classmate Jayden Moum’s nine. Senior setter Ashley Gathman poured in a match-high 37 assists and senior Trista Jackson led the team with 17 digs.

“They all did their jobs,” Jebens said.

MHS plays at the Dickinson High Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Majettes start with Linton-HMB at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Bishop Ryan wins five-setter against Kenmare

KENMARE – The Bishop Ryan volleyball team trailed two sets to one before rallying for a five-set victory against Kenmare on Tuesday.

Ryan junior middle blocker Gabbie Bohl recorded 15 kills, 10 blocks and two aces as the Lions (16-1 overall, 2-0 District 12) posted an 18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 15-8 victory.

“That’s Gabbie,” Ryan coach Kaycee Grochow said. “We need that from her every night.”

Classmate Hannah Stewart recorded 11 kills and six blocks.

Senior outside hitter Katie Nelson led the Honkers (8-9, 0-1) with 12 kills, three aces and 13 digs.

Bishop Ryan hosts Des Lacs-Burlington and Kenmare plays at Our Redeemer’s on Thursday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
