Ballet Magnificat! of Jackson, Miss., will present “The Scarlet Cord” at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall in Minot State University’s Old Main. Prior to the performance, students from The Rinat Mouzafarov Institute of Dance and Ballet Theater will perform dances at a pre-show, representing different scenes from the Bible, such as the Israelites leaving Egypt and the story of Baby Moses.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Home Sweet Home, Jacobsen Music, Northwest Music, Video Magic, Esoterica, and The Institute of Dance and Ballet Theater. For more information, call 837-0239 or email RMCBCballet@gmail.com.

Mouzafarov, owner of the ballet studio in Minot, and Terri Aldrich, executive director of the Minot Council on the Arts, described Ballet Magnificat! as the premiere Christian ballet company in the United States.

Ballet Magnificat! is also putting on a three-day educational workshop for children through adults at various locations in Minot. Mouzafarov is teaching some master classes. Some of his students have attended summer intensives hosted by Ballet Magnificat!

Mouzafarov said the workshops will draw people from across the state and out of state as well.

Mouzafarov and Aldrich said “The Scarlet Cord” is a story loosely based on the story of Rahab from the biblical Book of Joshua. The dance production focuses on a young woman called Rahab who finds faith in God and is willing to risk persecution during the last days of Soviet Russia.

The principal role in the production is played by Kathy Thibodeaux, the founder of Ballet Magnificat! She was a silver medalist at the International Ballet Competition.

“This story spoke to my heart when I saw it,” said Mouzafarov. “It was beautiful. It is a story for the entire family, a story of hope and love.”
