Beavers seventh after first round in Brainerd
BRAINERD, Minn. – The Minot State University men’s golf team carded a 323 and sits in seventh place after the first round of the 10-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Fall Championships on Monday.
Junior Kowan O’Keefe led the Beavers with a 5-over 77 at The Classic at Maddens golf course and is tied for 13th in the individual competition. MSU senior Casey Gleich and redshirt freshman Karson O’Keefe each carded an 81.
St. Cloud State shot a team-best 296 and leads Concordia-St. Paul by nine strokes heading into today’s round.
SCSU’s Tyler Koivisto and Minnesota Crookston’s Matt McClure had the best individual rounds of the day, each carding a 74.
The second round begins at 9 a.m. today with a shotgun start.

Minot High School 10th after opening round
GRAND FORKS – Junior McKinley Bender carded a team-best 88 and the Minot High School girls golf team is 10th after the first round of the state tournament at Grand Forks Country Club on Monday.
The Majettes shot a collective 368, 17 strokes behind leader Grand Forks Red River. MHS freshman Paige Argent also recorded a score in the 80s, firing an 89. All four Minot scorers shot under 100.
“I was very happy with our scores today,” MHS coach Scott Foltz said. “We’ve shown steady improvement throughout the season. Our place doesn’t show the effort. … We are the definition of team golf.”
Five teams are within 10 strokes of Red River. Fargo Davies and Fargo North each completed the round in 353 strokes and are tied for second. Century (357), West Fargo (358) and Dickinson (362) are all within striking distance.
West Fargo’s Ashley Bixby carded a 74 and leads the individual tournament. Century’s Annie Nelson and Davies’ Kathleen Marsh are two strokes behind the leader.
The final round begins at 10 a.m. today.
