Minot man dies in Souris River accident
The driver of a vehicle traveling east on Fourth Avenue Northwest failed to negotiate the turn at Fourth Street and jumped the dike, landing in the Souris River. The unidentified driver died in the accident, which occurred Monday around 5:45 p.m.
The passenger, 29-year-old Dustin Smith of Minot, was able to exit the vehicle when it was in the river. The driver, a 25-year-old Minot man, was removed from the vehicle a short time later by the Minot Fire Department dive team. Both were transported to Trinity Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead. The name of the driver is protected awaiting notification of the family. The accident is still under investigation.
