MSU soccer team edges Concordia-St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Trailing early, the Minot State University women’s soccer team scored two unanswered goals and posted a 2-1 victory against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday.

MSU sophomore midfielder Kayla Schlittenhart tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 54th minute with a shot from just outside the box. Junior forward Zoe Fisher was credited with the assist.

C-SP’s Erica Landry gave the Golden Bears (3-7 overall, 2-5 NSIC) the lead in the 17th minute, but the Beavers (2-5-2, 2-4-1) tied the game just before halftime on a goal by Chloe Melton. The freshman forward got behind the defense and placed a shot in the top right corner past C-SP goaltender Kayla Kuczaboski in the 45th minute.

MSU sophomore goaltender Gemma Biasetto finished with six saves to earn the win.

The Beavers host Minnesota-Duluth at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Beavers finish 10th at Fall Championships

BRAINERD, Minn. – The Minot State University women’s golf team shot a second-round score of 376 and finished in 10th place with a two-round total of 763 strokes at the 12-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Fall Championships on Sunday.

The Beavers finished the round in 11 fewer strokes than on Friday at The Classic’s at Maddens, a par-72, 5,915-yard course.

MSU freshman Kayla Barke carded a team-best round of 86 and sits tied for 23rd in the individual portion of the tournament. MSU senior Rebecca Heinitz finished with her second consecutive round of 94.

Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul are tied for first with team scores of 656, 12 shots clear of Minnesota State-Mankato.

Augustana’s Maggie Leland leads the field with a two-round total of 158.

The final 36 holes will be played on April 26-27 at Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn.
