Minot High tops Mandan in four sets

MANDAN – The Minot High School volleyball team picked up a four-set West Region win Tuesday, defeating Mandan 26-24, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19.

Minot senior Jayden Moum had a match-high 16 kills, junior Brooke Suko added 10 and senior setter Ashley Gathman racked up 41 assists. Senior libero Trista Jackson recorded a match-high 18 digs.

Minot (11-11 overall, 3-6 region) plays three matches Friday at a tournament at Davies High School in Fargo.

Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo begins Thursday

Dust off your cowboy boots, spurs and flannel.

The 59th annual Minot Y’s Men’s Rodeo returns to All Seasons Arena at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and runs through Sunday afternoon.

The competition serves as the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Badlands Circuit’s championship, concluding a 21-event season.

PRCA comprises 12 regions, with the Badlands Circuit representing North and South Dakota.

The event winners at each region’s finals, as well as the year-end standings leaders, advance to the National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo will feature seven events: bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding, as well as the all-around competition.

Ninety-two men and women will compete, including seven of eight 2012 Badlands Circuit year-end champions. Litchville, N.D., cowboy Tate Smith is atop the bull riding standings with $8,936, while Mandan’s Ty Breuer ranks second in the bareback riding.
