Bishop Ryan sweeps Surrey in volleyball

SURREY – The Bishop Ryan volleyball team rebounded from last week’s loss to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood with a 3-0 sweep (25-9, 25-14, 25-18) of Surrey on Tuesday.

Ryan junior Hannah Stewart had a match-high 10 kills and added 10 digs. Junior Maddie Wald led the Lions defensively with 18 digs.

Kristine Stenvold led the Mustangs with 11 digs.

Ryan hosts Berthold on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Surrey plays at Glenburn at the same time.

M-L-S Mavericks clinch District 12 volleyball title

MOHALL – Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood edged Our Redeemer’s Christian School in a marathon first set Tuesday, then took the next two games to clinch the District 12 regular-season volleyball championship. The Mavericks won 31-29, 25-14, 25-22.

Junior Callie Carlson and senior Alex Mott had 14 and 12 kills, respectively, to pace M-L-S (11-0 in non-tournament matches, 7-0 district). Senior setter Shania Brackenbury racked up 23 assists.

Freshman Morgan Olson had 18 kills and 10 digs to lead ORCS (27-9 overall, 6-1 district). Freshman Makayla Gartner added 12 kills and eighth-grade setter Karlee Zablotney tallied 30 assists.

The Mavericks host Stanley on Tuesday. ORCS travels to Des Lacs-Burlington the same night.
