Jean Marie (Bauer) Stark, 72, Spearfish, S.D., formerly of Kenmare, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in a Rapid City, S.D., hospital.
Jean Marie Bauer was born April 29, 1941, a daughter of Leonard and Ethel (Hanson) Bauer, in Kenmare. She was raised on the family farm and attended grade school and most of high school at St. Agnes Catholic School in Kenmare. As a result of the closure of St. Agnes School in 1957, Jean graduated from Kenmare High School. Following her graduation, Jean worked for banks in both Kenmare and Minot.
On April 18, 1964, Jean was united in marriage to Gerald C. Stark at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare. She moved with her husband to areas of Minneapolis, Denver and Louisville, Ky., as he worked for UPS. Jean worked in assisted living facilities while living in Colorado and Kentucky. In 1995, the couple retired to the Black Hills area in South Dakota.
Jean was an adventurous traveler, was always willing to try new things and was immediately liked by all those she met.
Jean is survived by: Husband of 50 years, Gerald, Spearfish, S.D.; daughter, Tracey Lynn Stark, Cambridge, Mass.; son and daughter-in-law, John C. Stark, and Britney L. Stark, Minneapolis; two grandsons, Gabriel C. Stark and Andrew T. Stark; brothers, Roger (Kate) Bauer, Benson, Minn., Paul (Beverly) Bauer, Minot, John Bauer, St. Louis, Steven (Elaine) Bauer, Kenmare; sister, Kathy Bauer, Kenmare; brother-in-law, Duane (Louise) Stark, Donnybrook; and sister-in-law, Janet (John) Bertsch, Minot.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ethel Bauer; and a beloved daughter, Heidi Marie Stark, in 1991.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare.
Burial: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare.
Visitation: Friday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 6 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare.
Vigil prayer service: Friday, 6 p.m., at the church.
Memorials: Contributions may be made to the “Jean Stark Memorial Fund” in lieu of flowers.
