Ronald Mehus

SHERWOOD Ronald Myron Mehus, 77, Sherwood, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at a Stanley hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Sherwood, to Engvald and Grace (Albers) Mehus. He graduated from Sherwood High School in 1954.

He attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year, majoring in auto mechanics. He then attended the Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago, studying diesel mechanics, graduating in 1957.

Ronald was very mechanically inclined. He was a certified welder and journeyman plumber, did electrical wiring and was a millworker. He worked numerous construction jobs including construction of area missile silos, housing at Minot Air Force Base and other area projects. He worked for many Minot area plumbers and also did small engine repair. He was the custodian at the Sherwood School for 12 years. More recently, he worked for Overhead Door in Minot until he retired.

Ronald was once married to Lois Melin, whom he married in October of 1958.

Ronald had a love and passion for building and racing cars. He raced cars in the late ’50s and early ’60s as a member of the Nodak Race Club. He loved the challenge of repairing almost anything mechanical, hunting and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved time spent visiting with family and friends.

Family: son, Lynn (Carol) Mehus, of Stanley; grandchildren, Reed, Rachel and ReeAnn Mehus; brother, Richard Mehus, Sherwood; nieces and nephews, Vicki Larson, Michael, Richard “Max,” Kelly and Mark Mehus.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, two hours, prior to the service, at the church.
