Minot State earns second straight sweep

BISMARCK – The Minot State University volleyball team earned its second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road sweep on Tuesday, defeating the University of Mary 25-8, 25-20, 25-23. The Beavers (9-12 overall, 5-7 NSIC) swept Bemidji State on the road Saturday.

MSU junior outside hitter Jen Dixon posted a match-high 11 kills on 23 attempts, good for a .391 hitting percentage. Sophomores Tarah Dabovich and Mallory Sall added seven kills each, and junior Emily Byrne tallied 29 assists.

“We’ve got two in a row on the road and that isn’t an easy thing to do in this conference and I think it’s the first time since we’ve been here that we have done that,” MSU coach Travis Ward said in a press release. “More importantly, it’s a must win for us when you are talking about getting into the conference tournament.”

The Beavers are in a four-way tie for ninth place in the NSIC with nine regular-season matches remaining. The top eight teams qualify for the conference tournament.

MSU hosts top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul (20-1, 12-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.
