Crisis won’t be the last
Robert Wolf, Minot
It’s nice to see this latest government “crisis” finally behind us. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be the last.
Republicans, and especially the Tea Party, have been building toward this for years. Their goal isn’t just to damage a democratic president or undue the Affordable Care Act. They want to finally end Medicare and Social Security as we know them.
In the recent budget talks in Washington, Republicans at first wanted President Obama to accept the Mitt Romney budget before they would open government again. That budget would turn Medicare into a voucher plan and cut its funding.
At the same time, Tea Party Republicans including our own Congressman Cramer sent a letter to John Boehner encouraging him to use this as an opportunity to whack Social Security.
They will pursue this “government by crisis” until the public votes them out. Since Kevin Cramer is one of them, it’s up to North Dakotans to help make a difference and see to it that he is a one-term congressman.
