K-9 assists in traffic stop that became pursuit capture

What began as a routine traffic stop became a pursuit in north Minot Thursday night. An officer with the Minot Police Department attempted to stop a car on Airport Road around 10:17 p.m. Refusing to halt, the car continued across Broadway and through the MSU Dome parking lot, finally stopping in the 900 block of 12th Avenue Northwest. The driver then abandoned the car, reportedly fleeing on foot.

A K-9 unit was called in, with dog “Sabre” tracking the suspect to 1124-10th St. NW, where he was found hiding beneath a motor home.

Jerome B. Fletcher, 37, was taken into custody and brought to Ward County Jail, where he was charged with misdemeanor counts of fleeing in a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license, in addition to outstanding warrants existing through the Ward County and Minot Municipal courts.

A search of the car was also reported to reveal drug paraphernalia, believed to be used with methamphetamines. Fletcher was further charged with Class A misdemeanor ingestion of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia other than marijuana, which is a Class C felony charge.
