Sandy M. Kimball, 46, Minot, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.
Sandy Martin Kimball was born on Dec. 19, 1966. He was the 7th (favorite) child born to Donald and Sharon Kimball. He was raised in Burlington and graduated in 1985 from Des-Lacs Burlington High School. Following graduation he moved around a bit from Grand Forks to Dillsburg, Pa., to Seattle, before meeting and marrying Michelle Gess on June 28, 1996.
Their son, Martin, was the light of his life. Sandy was an involved father, serving as a Cub Scout leader and a T-ball coach when Martin was young. He couldn’t throw a ball very well, but he tried anyway.
Regardless of the activity, Sandy enjoyed being with people. He loved playing darts and pool, dancing, playing games, having dinner parties, and just sitting around the fire talking. He was known for his outgoing personality and his unique laugh that could be heard from miles around. He had the ability to make people feel like they all were his best friend, always picking up the phone and calling a family member or friend just to stay connected. He especially treasured his relationship with his father-in-law, Kenny Gess, after his own father passed.
He worked in a variety of businesses throughout his life, including KFC, ING, The Minot Daily News, the Dakota Boys Ranch and Marketplace Foods, making good friends all along the way.
Sandy had a positive attitude, even in the most trying situations. Most people did not know that during the last few years of his life he quietly struggled with medical issues as he did not want people to treat him differently or worry about him.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, wonderful son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
Sandy is survived by: his wife, Michelle; son, Martin; mother, Sharon Kimball; siblings, Dianne (Tracy) Wolf, Shelley (Russ) Perlichek, Dana (Lisa) Kimball, Jay (Jamie) Kimball, Lisa (Jason) Wall, Patti (Dean) Rylander; nieces and nephews, Katie, Josh, Melissa, Stuart, Jessalyn, Jeni, Barry, Morgan, Jake, Molly, Jordan, Patrick, Paxton, Ben, Kylee, Maddux, Jantze, Jerick, Ayla, Bree, Brenden, Ella, Ben Isaiah, Julian; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Kimball, and his grandparents.
