No. 17 Huskies pull away from MSU

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 17 St. Cloud State rushed for 268 yards Saturday and scored 17 unanswered points to pull away from Minot State, 38-14, in front of 2,921 at Husky Stadium.

Sophomore running back Ledell White ran nine times for 83 yards and two touchdowns, and senior Michael Walker carried for 87 yards on 22 attempts. Senior quarterback Phillip Klaphake ran for 57 yards and another score, in addition to completing 15 of 26 passes for 200 yards and two TDs.

The Beavers (2-8) kept it interesting for awhile, pulling within 21-14 on sophomore Randel Barber’s 16-yard touchdown run with 6 minutes, 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

But White scored from 29 yards out 2:38 later, Eric Mielke booted a field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter and Klaphake found Taylor Berger for a 23-yard TD pass midway through the fourth frame.

The Huskies (9-1) outgained MSU 468-260 in total offense. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s top-ranked pass defense held MSU quarterback Zac Cunha in check. A week after throwing for a career-high 355 yards, the sophomore completed 13 of 34 attempts for 138 yards and an interception.

Senior receiver Wayne Peters led MSU with seven catches for 71 yards. Peters, the NSIC leader with 66 receptions, scored the Beavers’ first touchdown on a 2-yard run with 19 seconds left in the first quarter.

MSU redshirt freshman running back Jarvis Mustipher passed the century mark for the third time this season, picking up 110 yards on 23 carries.

The Beavers conclude their season at home Saturday against Bemidji State.
