Evelyn Marie Jewell, 88, Portland, Ore., died Oct. 21, 2013.
She was born Dec. 7, 1924, to Porter and Stella Harmon in Minot. She spent her first 15 years on a farm near Deering. After high school, she moved to Long Beach, Calif., and worked for two years at the post office. Evelyn moved to Portland, Ore., in 1945, and was employed by the Crippled Children’s Division until she married John Jewell in 1951. She started attending St. Luke Lutheran Church in 1956, and was a member holding various positions and being of service until her death. She enjoyed her family, gardening, and later in life she took classes in writing, drawing and painting.
She was a classy, soft-spoken and generous woman.
Evelyn is survived by: her children, Kristine, Martin and Bradley; sisters, Maxine, Jean and Joyce; brother, Harold; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and brother, Leland.
