George Francis Ganje, 73, died Aug. 31, 2013, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., while vacationing in Cayucos, Calif. His wife, Susan (Lewis) Ganje, was at his side.
George was born March 31, 1940, in Oakland, Calif., to George C. and Regina (Boehm) Ganje. He grew up in North Dakota, spending a significant amount of time on a family farm near Karlsruhe, N.D. He graduated from St. Leo’s High School in Minot, N.D., and attended Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif.
George and Susan were married July 4, 1963, in Carmel, Calif., and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past July. They were longtime residents of Fremont, Calif., retired to Grand Rapids, Minn., and were currently residing in Sun City West, Ariz. George retired after many years in the food and beverage distribution industry.
His pleasurable activities included hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, card playing, watching old movies, sporting events, and in recent years, enjoying time with his three young granddaughters. He loved to sit and watch the magic of the ocean from a vacation home in Cayucos. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather “papa,” and big brother to his family.
George is survived by: his wife, Susan; his son, Jeff, daughter-in-law Abigail, and granddaughters, Makenzie, Gianna and Brooklyn Ganje; sisters, JoAnn (John) Congdon, Diane (Larry) Kirby; and brothers, Frank, John and Leonard Ganje; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel; and sisters, Lucille Albers and Mary Peterson.
A family celebration of life will take place in Arizona.
