Attempted bank robbery in New Town

NEW TOWN A man entered Lakeside State Bank in New Town at about 8:35 a.m. Wednesday and demanded cash from a teller before fleeing on foot.

The man left without taking money, according to New Town Police Chief Arthur Walgren.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned man who is about 30 years old and about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, ski mask and gloves.

Various agencies including New Town police, tribal law enforcement, the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department, and tribal fish and game are conducting searches in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the suspect.

The Three Affiliated Tribes Administration Building, west of New Town, and the Elbowoods Memorial Health Center in New Town were in a lockdown Wednesday because of the attempted bank robbery, tribal officials said.
