Ann P. Thom

Ann Pandora Thom, 89, Velva, formerly of Minot, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in a Velva assisted living facility.

Ann was born on Feb. 13, 1924, at Norwich, the youngest of nine children to Peder and Petrina (Sollid) Moen. She was raised on the family farm near Norwich and attended rural schools in that area. She graduated from Minot High School and attended business school in Minot. She was employed by the Farm Security Administration at Fort Benton, Montana and later for the McHenry County Farmers Home Administration at Rugby and Towner.

She met Clifford Thom before he joined the Navy during World War II. After the war, Ann and Clifford were married on Sept. 14, 1947, at her home church, Stenkjaer Lutheran in Simcoe, by Pastor Norman Neilsen. For five years they lived in Minot, where their first two children, Curtis and David, were born. In the spring of 1953, they moved to a farm three miles from where she was raised. It was there that daughter, Eileen, and youngest son, Donald, were born. They purchased the farm in the early 1960s and farmed there until retiring in 1987.

They moved back to Minot, where they lived in the Green Acres addition for 25 years. During those years, they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and were active with several community groups. They moved to the Valley View Manor, Velva, in November of 2012. Ann and Clifford have enjoyed their close knit growing family and ever so much more in theses last few years.

Ann was a lifetime member of Stenkjaer Lutheran Church until it completed its mission and was closed at the end of December 2011. She was also active in many community and school organizations, church ladies’ groups, the Minot Moose Lodge and Farmers Union. She was an excellent cook and homemaker along with tending to her flower garden, quilting, crocheting and caring for her precious Persian cats, Josie and Charlie. Ann and Clifford had recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with family. Throughout her life, she was a faithful helper to her mother, oldest brother, Elmer, and sisters, Alice, Jeanne and Ingeborg.

Ann is survived by: her husband, Clifford Thom, Velva; children, Curtis Thom, Minot, David (Bonnie) Thom, Granville, Eileen (Bryan) Giese, Mandan, Donald (Marsha) Thom, Minot; grandchildren, Megan (Kyle) Krueger, Pequot Lakes, Minn., Nolan Thom, Norwich, Kendra (Nathan) Faa, Norwich, Christopher (Lisa) Giese, Fargo, Rachelle (Brad) Putnam, Stillwater, Minn., and Kimberly (Steven) Bryan, Durham, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
