John J. Roering, 74, Bowbells, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in his home.
John was born on Nov. 15, 1939, in Avon, Minn., the son of Clarence and Ernestine (Timp) Roering. He was raised and educated in Melrose, Minn., and graduated from Melrose High School in 1958. After graduation John worked for various companies and in the late 1960s moved to Bowbells, where he worked road construction and then at the potash plant in Northgate until it closed in 1997. He worked for Burke County until he retired and most recently for SunPrairie Grain.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his black labs.
He was a member of the Bowbells Fire Department, Bowbells Ambulance and Stony Run Sportsman Club. He was also a hunters safety instructor.
John is survived by: his sons, Shawn Roering, Donnybrook, and Thomas Roering, Bowbells; daughter, Teresa Roering and her fiance Mclain Morawski, Watford City, ND; stepchildren, Joe Mertes, Toni Mertes, Toni (Adam) Jensen, all of Bowbells, and Laura Mertes, White Bear Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, Arabella Roering, Andrew Roering and Bruin Morawski.
John is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bowbells.
Visitation: Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
Memorials are preferred to the Bowbells Fire Department or the Stony Run Sportsman Club.
