Building at Bolton Heights

Construction of large apartment buildings is very visible on the city’s northwest edge. The apartments are part of the Bolton Heights Addition.

The construction project stands out from many others in Minot, not only because of the size of the apartment structures, but because they are being built outside the U.S. Highway 83 bypass. The area was annexed to the city in September 2012.

Ten apartment buildings, located north of 19th Avenue NW and west of the bypass, are in various stages of construction. Some are nearly ready for occupancy.

“Two 36 unit apartments are about done. They should be coming on line before the end of December. One is pretty much ready to go,” said Danny Hanson, Investors Management and Marketing, the company that will manage several apartment complexes at Bolton Heights. “It’s looking like, for 2014 anyway, there will probably be another 300 to 360 additional units completed.”

Given the many possible delays in construction, particularly during the winter months, Hanson stressed that expected completion dates for some units could change. Still, he said, interest in the project has been quite good.

Several different builders are involved in ongoing construction at Bolton Heights. Apartment units range in size from one to three bedrooms. Garages are also being built, including options of more than one stall per apartment.

“We’ve started taking deposits,” remarked Hanson.

While large apartment buildings rising up just outside the city proper are highly visible, they represent only a portion of the platted Bolton Heights development. The land between the apartments and the bypass to the east is zoned for commercial property.

To the west, north and south of the existing apartment construction a total of 327 lots are platted for various use. Construction on those lots is projected to be a combination of single family homes, twin homes and townhouses. However, to date, no construction of homes has occurred.
