Gary Armstrong, 74, Minot, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in a Minot hospital.
Gary Maynard Armstrong was born July 23, 1939, the son of Melvin and Agnes (Olson) Armstrong, in Chinook, Mont. He was raised and educated in Minot, and graduated from Minot High School in 1957.
Gary married his high school sweetheart, Nancy A. Bone, on Oct. 30, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. From this union, a son, Mark, was born. They made their home in Minot until 1962, when they moved to Fargo. Gary was accepted into the North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 1967.
Following Gary’s graduation, they moved to Cavalier where he served a one-year internship. They then moved to Walla Walla, Wash., and later to Alexandria, Minn., before settling in Elkhart, Ind. During that time, he worked as a pharmacist and in 1987, they purchased Bourbon Drug Store in Bourbon, Ind., which they owned and operated until 1993. He continued working there until retirement in 2000. Following their retirement, they returned to Minot to care for Nancy’s parents.
He had an active church life, especially with the refugee sponsor program, and was a current a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
He enjoyed reading, studying maps, fishing, hunting and photography.
Surviving family includes: daughter-in-law, Leth Armstrong, Goshen, Ind.; sisters, Wanda Puppe, Crookston, Minn., Glenda (Myron) Schroeder, Minot; brother, Mike (Patti) Armstrong, Garrison; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His wife, Nancy, who survived him in death, died Dec. 2.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Armstrong.
Joint Funeral: Monday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
