Nancy Armstrong, 73, Minot, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in a Minot hospital.
Nancy Alice Bone was born Oct. 16, 1940, the daughter of Jack Bone Sr. and Evelyn (Higgins) Bone, in Virginia, Minn. As a young child, she and her family moved to Minot, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Minot High School in 1958. She then attended Minot State Teachers College where she received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education in 1962.
Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Gary M. Armstrong, on Oct. 30, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. From this union, a son, Mark, was born. They made their home in Minot until 1962, when they moved to Fargo and she began teaching. Following Gary’s graduation from North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy, they moved to Cavalier where she taught school for one year. They then resided in Walla Walla, Wash., and later to Alexandria, Minn., before settling in Elkhart, Ind. She worked at a daycare center and later operated a daycare in her own home. In 1987, they purchased a drug store, Bourbon Drug Store in Bourbon, Ind., which they operated until 1993. Following their retirement, they returned to Minot to care for Nancy’s parents.
She had an active church life, especially with the refugee sponsor program, and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting and visiting residents at the nursing homes.
Surviving family includes: daughter-in-law, Leth Armstrong, Goshen, Ind.; brother, Jack (Sue) Bone, Canyonville, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nancy was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Gary (who passed away Nov. 22, 2013); son, Mark Armstrong.
Joint Funeral: Monday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials: are preferred to Souris Valley Animal Shelter.
