Magicians finish strong in win

JAMESTOWN – The Minot High School wrestling team trailed by 12 points entering the final six matches, but won them all for a 45-24 victory against Jamestown on Friday.

Pins by senior Isaiah Crowe (285 pounds) and sophomore Matthew Leier (106) drew the Magicians even before eighth-grader Brody Armstrong’s 6-1 decision over Jamestown’s Kane Barnick gave Minot a 27-24 lead. Back-to-back forfeits by the Blue Jays at 120 and 126 sealed the victory for the Magicians. Freshman Carson Mosser (132) finished the meet by pinning Jamestown’s Kyle Dupre in 1 minute, 37 seconds.

“We scored some extra bonus points and the kids wrestled hard,” MHS coach Nolan Spooner said. “Every week we’re learning more about ourselves and they’re coming into their own.”

Sophomore Ethan Benham (138), eighth-grader Tyler Thompson (152) and freshman Matthew Rabe (160) all won their respective matches as well.

The Magicians wrestle in the Jamestown Invitational today at 11 a.m.
