Donald Howe, 66, rural Velva, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Donald Allen Howe was born Aug. 26, 1947, the son of Clayton and Helen (Sullivan) Howe, in Minot. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Velva and was educated in a one-room school house, Mimer School 52, located on the family farm, through the eighth grade. He graduated from Velva High School in 1965.
Donnie married Linda Newman on Aug. 26, 1972, in Minot. They made their home in Voltaire for one year before moving to the Howe family farm. From this union, a daughter, Carleen, and a son, Wade, were born.
He was employed at Burgess Chevrolet in Velva for five years and Basin Electric’s William J. Neal Station near Voltaire from 1970 to 1985. In 1986, he took over the family farm and farmed until the time of his death.
He loved deer hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and sprints. Some of his favorite hobbies were attending farm auction sales and road trips with Gerald. A recent accomplishment that Donnie was especially proud of was restoring his father’s 1942 IH Farmall tractor. He was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva, the Velva American Legion Post #39 and the Moose Lodge in Minot.
His loving family includes: wife of 41 years, Linda, rural Velva; daughter, Carleen Howe Wical and her special friend, Chris, Hendrum, Minn.; son, Wade (Kristi) Howe, rural Velva; grandchildren, Aaron and Brynn Wical and Emma and Faith Howe; mother, Helen Howe, Minot; mother-in-law, Mildred Newman, Minot; brother, Neil Howe, Fargo; sisters, Betty (Roger) Fredrickson, Bismarck, and Debbie (Todd) Haga, Bismarck; aunt, Irene Tillapaugh, Springfield, Ore.; uncle, Gordon Dahl, Sawyer; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, one great-great-niece; and cousins.
Donnie was preceded in death by: his father, Clayton Howe; father-in-law, Gerald Newman; nephew, Daniel Haga; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral: Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.
Interment: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.
Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.
Family Prayer Service: Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.
