Marian Brodersen

Marian Brodersen, 82, of Westhope, formerly of Souris, died Saturday at an Oakes hospital. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m., in Lesje Lutheran Church at Souris. Visitation will be today, Dec. 11, from 1 to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Marian Brodersen, a daughter of Melvin and Mildred (Madsen) Sannes, was born March 23, 1931, at Westhope. She was reared there and later graduated from Westhope High School. She then attended Minot State Teachers College. Following graduation, she taught at a one-room school house near Souris.

On June 9, 1949, she married Oliver Olson at Westhope. They made their home on a farm near Souris. In 1967, they moved into Souris. They were blessed with six children. Oliver passed away on Nov. 1, 1978. Marian became the postmaster in Souris in 1979.

On Aug. 12, 1986, she married Hans Brodersen at Souris. Marian retired from the post office in 1993. Hans passed away in November 1997. In 2010, she moved to Westhope.

Marian was a member of Lesje Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and the Heritage Club. Marian also sold Avon products for 25 years. She loved spending the winter at her home in Arizona. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Europe, Canada and Alaska. She was known for her fabulous donuts and great-tasting lefse. She kept herself busy with crafts, crocheting, embroidering and sewing. She was so loved and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by: her six children, Leonard (Sissy) Olson, of Las Vegas, Nev., Margaret (Bernie) Fiedler, of Dousman, Wis., Jerome Olson, of Lisbon, Karen (Doug) Nelson, of Oakes, Barbara (Richard) Huber, of Clarkdale, Ariz., and Rebecca (Kip) Huber, of Westhope; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Sannes, of Longmont, Colo., and Lowell Sannes, of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Helen Stewart, of Fresno, Calif., and Eleanor Allen, of Clear Lake, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Haley Huber; and brothers, Erling, Lloyd, James and Lawrence Sannes.
