Sweeney’s bond to remain the same

A hearing to reduce the bond for Brian Lamont Sweeney, 46, Minot, from $20,000 cash or corporate surety resulted in denial Tuesday afternoon.

Sweeney faces a Class C felony charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C felony charge of prohibited possession of a firearm, a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana by a driver, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm or weapon, and faced similar charges earlier this year.

In July he had a Class AA felony drug charge, which could have gotten him life in prison, thrown out and had other charges reduced, resulting in him having to pay a total of $1,425 in fees and jail time left at time served for two years of probation.

Sweeney expressed frustration in a letter to the court on Dec. 4 with his series of attorneys on the charges and said he wanted to represent himself if he was unable to find an attorney he could work with.
