Shirlene Johnson, 71, West Fargo, N.D., died on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at her home.
Shirlene Haner was born July 20, 1942, in Minot,, to Harold and Anna (Olsen) Haner. She grew up on a farm near Douglas, N.D., and graduated from high school there as valedictorian. She received her bachelor’s degree from NDSU.
Shirlene worked for the USDA in Grand Forks, N.D., before her marriage to James Johnson on Jan. 30, 1966 in Douglas. They lived in various states before retiring and settling in West Fargo. They lived in Hillsboro, N.D., Fargo, N.D., Indianapolis, Ind., St. Paul, Minn., and Birmingham, Ala.
Shirlene had many talents and worked in a variety of fields throughout her life including: research chemist, microbiologist, licensed realtor, tax consultant and bookstore owner.
She was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved to travel and enjoyed flying in her younger days. She was known for her cheerful smile and upbeat attitude. Shirlene served as both an Elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. She volunteered in various capacities throughout her life. She loved helping others.
Shirlene is survived by: her husband, Jim; children, Nicole (Jeff) Jones, Gallup, N.M., Wade (Gail), of Houston, Texas, and Brent (Carmen), Minnetonka, Minn.; grandchildren, Joshua Jones, Crystal Reavis, Chloe, Myra and Marisa Johnson; father, Harold Haner, Minot; brother, Arden (Judy) Haner, of Douglas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Deacon Fund at Community Presbyterian Church in West Fargo.
Memorial service: Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo.
