Two Crosby men injured in crash

FORTUNA Two Crosby men were injured in a crash at the intersection of U.S. highways 85 and 5 about seven and a half miles east of Fortuna, just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Jody Colton Sims, 18, Crosby, was driving a 2012 Ford F-250 pickup truck north on Highway 85 with Ferrell Wayne Spradin, 47, Crosby, as his passenger. As the vehicle approached a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 5, Sims began to apply his breaks but began to slide forward due to the heavy ice and compacted snow on the roadway.

A westbound 2007 Kenworth semi truck and tanker trailer driven by Stanley Joseph Margas, 49, Watonga, Okla., began to accelerate to avoid the collision with the sliding truck but was unsuccessful. The Ford F-250 collided with the trailer near the axles.

Neither Sims nor Spradin were wearing their seatbelts. They were both transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Crosby to be treated for injuries suffered in the crash.
